Animal Collective , Dosh, and Melt Banana

Fight music for nerds. Pitchfork Media gave them the nod with a rating of 8.9 for their recent release, "Sung Tongs" Here's a free Animal Collective mp3 from Paw-tracks.com.
Aerial Pink opened and sounded/pranced around like assholes. I hear their recorded shit is pretty tight. Note to first band of the night(their name escapes me)- learn how to play your instruments before you attempt avant garde noise art.

A couple nights ago, Anticon's Dosh used a SP303 and a bunch of loops-n-fx pedals to build his beats from precussion and 3 sets of keys.Free mp3s here.

And last night Japanese noise n thrash superheroes Melt Banana destroyed eardrums and incited a well read mosh pit that reminded me of that Pearl Jam video for "Alive". Check out the video/sounds on their site.

Tiger Beer, Vice, Puma Team up for....

Mixed reviews for the "Legends of Style 2" jammy from this Saturday. With a $20 cover and the open bar lasting for less than an hour, "i'm not feeling it" was what I heard from many of the more non-graf heads. The art came together well, with surprisingly affordable pieces from the Godfather of Graffiti: Seen($350 for your 2 panel joints!?), new works from the Project SF Crew and really impressive pieces by KEM5. The AFH building itself is an incredible space generating enough electricity from renewable resources to power Optimus Prime for 5 days. Oh, and the skanks at the party were B+/A-.

Pete Fahey from the world famous Sneaker Pimps Tour was at the Gift of Gab and LOS2 shows. We were talking about his global domination tour selling out stops in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America when I realized that I need to get out of the house more often. If you've put together an art show causing riots and drawing 7k plus , call Pete.

Gift of Gab w/ Lateef , DJs Relm, Special Blend, and Makko

Phone, we get it.

Thursday, DJ Special Blend and myself are opening the Gift of Gab/ Lateef show at the Middle East Downstairs. If last Quannum tour was any indication of this show, we'll be sold out with a quickness. Got a bunch of new blends i'm debuting, but probably won't rock these ones i did under the guise of soundbwoy.....

Saturday has the graffiti artshow, "Legends of Style" by our friends Future Classic at the incredible new Artists For Humanity building(Photos Here). You can also look at all the cutting edge Green Design features the building boasts. Seen and DJ Kon headline. Our crew Project SF shall be in the hizzy showing new works, just in case you missed our art installation opening at Great Scotts last weekend. Holla.

  • Reissue Heaven at Turntable Lab Reissues of hard to get mid 90's white labels. Highlights include the Vinyl Reanimators remix of Kool G Rap & Nas’ “Fast Life,” the most disgustingest lyrics off all time on Biggie & RA The Rugged Man’s “Cunt Renaissance,” Tragedy’s “Funk Mode” and more If that's not enough, check the Cenobytes EP listed under the aforementioned "Classic Whites vol.1"LP. That Bloc party single looks burly too.

It's the first of the month

we havin' a wonderful day, and I won't front with ya. Why? 'Cause it's the first of the month. And now I be smokin', chokin', rollin' blunts, and sippin' on forty ounces, thuggin', come, come, we got the blunts and rum

Possibly one of the best lineups of the year for a downstairs show blew up the downstairs at the middle east for Apollo Sunshine's EP release party.
The Lot Six, Mittens and the Beatings...Only caught the last song of The Lot Six then Apollo Sunshine went through a torrent of new material via rapid fire instrumentation changes. A multimedia presentation came midset with the boys demonstrating the"Phoney Maroney" dance on Fox25 Midday news. Dudes have gone beyond musicianship as I formally know it and can basically do whatever the hell they want with songwriting. Bluegrass, ragtime, to classic prog rock complete with heavily retarted guitar freakouts. Apollo Sunshine was in the hizzy.
A couple of Grime Sites:

All this grime hoopla hearkens back to previous overhyped British music trenda that have failed to reach the levels of Beatles invasion success. Like 2step or mid 90s electronica, will grime peak far below the levels of saturation needed for global takeover? At Grime's best, the sound is still imitative of jump up dancehall and the more ferocious strains of crunk. Can cockney slang and stripped down garage beats programmed on playstations win over the teeming masses?

Do yourself a solid and listen to the whole BLOC PARTY ALBUM HERE.
